Paying it forward: Meo Remalante

remalante-01Meo Remalante founded Fotoklase sa Kalye, a group that teaches photography for free to anybody with the passion, commitment and an unselfish drive to use what was learned to share, advocate and inspire others without expecting anything in return.

What do you do?

I’m currently a member of the faculty of the College of Fine Arts & Design of the University of Santo Tomas where I teach digital photography, advertising design and production. I do graphics design work on the side and accept invitations as motivational speaker for my advocacy.

What tools do you use in your work?

A 16 gig iPad3 is my constant companion and carry tool which I use for the academe requirement, coupled with a VGL adaptor for LCD projector. In my home base, I have a 15″ MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and a 20″ iMac 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo. For storage, I have a 2Tb and a 1Tb WD external hard drive.  I also use a Wacom Bamboo tablet. These tools are for work requirements needed for the academe and personal projects.

What software do these tools run on?

Basics for the academe are Docs To Go, Dropbox, Keynote. For photos and graphics, there are Adobe products such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom and InDesign, Photomatix Pro 4.1, Keynote, Microsoft Office 2011 apps.

How was YNZAL instrumental in setting up this workflow for you? Please describe your experience in doing business with Ynzal.

I consult with Ynzal constantly every time a new hardware comes up, for their expert opinion and professional advice if the stuff would fit in order to increase my productivity and achieve a flawless system in my workflow.

Some of my hardware warranties were usually outlasted by Ynzal‘s care which is beyond the after sales service of a product and that’s the main reason why we have been partners and friends for ages!

What is your dream set-up? Tools on your wishlist?

I want to be as mobile as I can at present which requires for a set-up that goes with that nature, with a zap and speed  needed yet light  to bring with me anywhere, anytime. I am into an advocacy mode to teach kids photography for free and applying the images captured to communication materials needed by the community, non- government organizations and the church. Their output hopefully will help disseminate information and create awareness of the plight of the less fortunate around the community.

A lighter 13″ MacBook Pro (with updated apps I usually have) with a VGL adaptor, 6×9″ Cintiq tablet, LCD projector and a color printer capable of printing 8×10″ images are my wish list.

1st FotoKlase sa Kalye (FKK) workshop, a group Meo founded to teach photography for free to members. It started with 2 members and after 6 months grew to 340+ members. Professional photographer-friends were invited/volunteered to share their expertise for free.

FKK members are encouraged to use their knowledge for advocacies to help persons with disabilities (PWD) learn photography to express themselves, set-up an photo exhibit of their images to further create an awareness of their plight.

These are some of Meo’s photos of varied subjects taken with a Canon 7D and a Point & Shoot camera (Canon S100).
